How it works

Set it up once. It plans every week.

Tell the app how your club week runs and where you play. It does the planning most grassroots players never get from a coach.

  1. Tell it your club week

Training nights, match days and season dates. Or join your team’s shared fixture list with an invite code. Your club week stays fixed; only the app’s own work moves.

  2. Pick your position

Goalkeeper, centre back, full back or wing back, central midfield, winger or striker, plus up to two more. Keepers get their own programme.

  3. Check in each morning

Three jumps and four quick taps for sleep, soreness, energy and mood. Compared only with your own normal. Connect a watch and HRV joins in.

  4. Train the session it gives you

Green, amber or red, with a one-line reason for any change and a one-tap override. 45, 60 or 75 minutes, gym or home.

The club week

Built around Wednesday night and Sunday morning.

Your week has to fit round a job, a club night and a match. Here’s a typical in-season week for a Sunday league player who trains on Wednesdays.

MonRestLog minutes played and how hard it felt.
TueStrengthTwo days after the game, when match fatigue has mostly eased.
WedClub trainingWarm-up first. Nordics after, never before.
ThuSpeed and powerShort sprints, jumps and Copenhagens. Lighter and faster.
FriRestNothing heavy two days out.
SatRest or primerOptional: a few short sprints or upper body.
SunMatchFull warm-up before kick-off. Log your minutes after.

Saturday and Sunday?

Playing for two teams counts as one match block. Heavy legs wait until Tuesday at the earliest. Midweek cup game? One short session between, no heavy legs.

Strength kept all season

At least one strength session a week, two when the week allows, so you finish May as strong as you started August.

45, 60 or 75 minutes

Pick your length. Short on time? Extras go first. The main lift, Nordics and Copenhagens are never cut on their day.

Readiness check-in

Sixty seconds that shape today’s session.

Three countermovement jumps and four wellness taps, compared with your own rolling normal. Jump height and how you feel are two of the better-studied ways to track fatigue in athletes Claudino et al. 2017 Saw et al. 2016.

Green

Train as planned.

Amber

Same weights, about a third less volume.

Red

Move it to tomorrow, or run a short recovery version.

How the check-in works

Safety first, always free

Some things should never sit behind a paywall.

Head injury reporting and return steps, pain and red-flag advice, illness guidance and support links work for everyone, subscribed or not. Safety always overrides the plan.

Possible head injury

One button on every match and training log. Training locks straight away, with 999 and NHS 111 guidance on screen. You don’t have to be knocked out to have a concussion.

Pain and red flags

Rate pain 0–10. Mild pain swaps the exercise; 6 or more, swelling, a limp or a red flag stops that area and points you to a physio or doctor.

Illness and chest pain

Fever means no training. Players 35+ get a chest-pain card: stop playing and call 999. Mood check-ins come with support links.

No injury predictions, no risk scores, no heading drills, and no claim that any exercise stops injuries. Just guidance with its evidence shown.

The coach behind the rules

Written by someone who’s run the club week.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Match Ready: Football for?

Amateur footballers aged 13 and over: Saturday and Sunday league, grassroots and non-league. It suits anyone who trains with a club once or twice a week, plays at the weekend (sometimes twice) and wants their gym and fitness work to fit around that. Players aged 13 to 15 need a parent’s consent before their plan starts.

How is it different from a football training app full of drills?

Most football apps teach ball skills. Match Ready: Football does the strength and conditioning side: gym or home sessions, speed, hamstring and groin work, and the warm-up, placed around your club nights and match days. Ball work stays with your club.

How much does it cost?

Match Ready Pro is £12.99 a month or £79.99 a year. The yearly plan starts with a 14-day free trial; the monthly plan has no trial. The head injury, pain and illness tools are free for everyone.

Does the app tell me when I can play after a head injury?

No. It walks you through the UK grassroots graduated return day by day, checks your symptoms and never lets you skip a stage. Matches are never before day 21. It never says you’re fit to play: that’s for a healthcare professional and your club.

Can I use it without a gym?

Yes. Every session has a home version using bodyweight, bands and a backpack. You can switch per session. Maximal strength rises more slowly without heavy weights, and the app says so plainly.

When does it launch?

It’s coming soon to the App Store and Google Play.
